Happy New Year! I hope you had a restful holiday that allowed you to visit with your loved ones. I am looking forward to a productive new year.

String Classes Resume on Monday, January 3
Classes will resume on Monday, January 3, 2010 (regardless of your school schedule).

Fredericksburg Music Club will be hosting a wonderful quartet of musicians from the Houston Symphony orchestra Saturday, January 29, 2010. Please mark your calendars to attend this performance. It is a rare opportunity for students in Fredericksburg to see such high quality string performances.

Suzuki Parent Seminar

If your child is just beginning or still in Suzuki Book 1, please plan on attending one of these meetings. Please let me know which meeting you will be able to attend. The following dates and times are available:

Thursday, January 6 at 10 a.m.
Friday, January 7 at 10 a.m.
Friday, January 7 at 11 a.m.
Saturday, January 8 at 8 a.m.
Saturday, January 8 at 1 p.m.
Saturday, January 8 at 2 p.m.
Saturday, January 8 at 3 p.m.

Let me know your preference ASAP. I will host this at my home (603 Bell St. in Fredericksburg), so the space will be limited to 5 parents per class. (This seminar is for parents only, not students.) I am offering several options so that everyone can make it to one. The training will be short and informative.

January Group Classes

January 8, 2010 & January 22, 2010 at First United Methodist Church in Fredericksburg.

11:00 a.m. to noon (Sarah S., Ellie M., Erin F., John F., Asher S., Jorja S., Juan & Jose C., Katherine P., Ashley D., Brook E., Austin F., Sydney S., William F., Jenna R., Dylan S., Addison B.)

* Others who are already in HCYO or at Ambleside are invited also, but I understand you already have an ensemble to participate in each week.

I realize that it is a hard to travel for these classes, but group is very important and meets only twice per month. Ensemble is one of the MOST important parts of string playing.

Fredericksburg Community Orchestras

The Fredericksburg Community Orchestra String Ensemble will meet January 7 & 21 at 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Gillespie County Historical Society Social Hall. During the first 30 minutes, we will have an instructional session. During the 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. hour, we will rehearse string orchestra repertoire. Participants will be asked to contribute $25 for music and other supplies. Students in Book 2 and above are welcome.

We are looking for a few board members to serve on the Fredericksburg Community Orchestras. If you have previous board or organizational experience and are interested, please contact me regarding the opportunity to start a new organization that supports string education and performances in Fredericksburg and the surrounding communities.
